FAQ’s

What should you not do before an MRI?

On the day of your MRI scan, you should be able to eat, drink and take any medication as usual, unless you’re advised otherwise. In some cases, you may be asked not to eat or drink anything for up to 4 hours before the scan, and sometimes you may be asked to drink a fairly large amount of water beforehand.

What are the safety precautions for an MRI?

As a patient, it is vital that you remove all metallic belongings in advance of an MRI exam, including external hearing aids, watches, jewelry, cell phones, and items of clothing that have metallic threads or fasteners. For example, most jeans or denim pants come with metal zippers. In this case you will be provided with a gown and asked to please remove the article of clothing. If you need a blanket, we may provide you with one as well.

Can I wear a bra with underwire?

If possible, do not wear an underwire bra (the metal can throw off the magnetic field). Sports bras are usually a good alternative. We also have hospital gowns to change into if necessary. The clasps on the back of a regular bra are not a problem, but avoid wearing bras that have metal parts on the straps.

Can the Technologists tell me my results?

Unfortunately no. Many patients ask if someone can give them their results that day, but techs can not give any information. You will receive your results from your primary doctor or specialist once they receive the report.

CT Scan

64 Slice CT Scanner

The LightSpeed VCT can capture images of a beating heart in five heartbeats or an organ in a second, and can perform whole body trauma in ten seconds, more than twice as fast as conventional multi-slice CT scanners. And it does so without sacrificing clarity – its submillimeter resolution offers spectacular views of veins and arteries.

For physicians, volume coverage means new diagnostic power, including the ability to routinely perform CT angiography, rapid tests for ER stroke and chest pain, and whole body trauma.

X-Ray

X-Ray is a staple in our practice. We can perform various types of X-Rays at any of the following locations. Our walk-in X-Ray hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy is a type of imaging test that shows a continuous x-ray image on a monitor, much like an x-ray movie. It is used to diagnose or treat patients by displaying the movement of a body part or of an instrument or dye (contrast agent) through the body.

During a fluoroscopy procedure, an x-ray beam is passed through the body. The image is transmitted to a monitor so that the body part and its motion can be seen in detail.

We offer Fluoroscopy imaging at our offices in Stockton, CA. Call 209-467-1000 today for an appointment.

FAQ’S

What is an X-RAY?

Xrays are a type of radiation called electromagnetic waves. Xray imaging creates pictures of the inside of your body. The images show the parts of your body in different shades of black and white. This is because different tissues absorb different amounts of radiation. A radiologist will then read these images and communicate his/her findings to your primary doctor or specialist.

What do I wear to my X-RAY appointment?

Please wear loose fitting clothing without any zips, buckles, belts or buttons. This type of clothing can be left on during the X– If needed, our technologists can provide you with a gown to change into along with a blanket if you need one.

Can I eat or drink anything before my X-Ray?

You can eat and drink as normal beforehand and can continue taking your usual medications. However, you may need to stop taking certain medications and avoid eating and drinking for a few hours if you‘re having an Xray that uses a contrast agent (see contrast Xrays below).

Mammography

3D Digital Mammography

Valley MRI & Radiology is a certified Pink Ribbon Facility, a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities. By offering women digital mammography exams, the facility hopes to increase the number of area women who follow recommendations for regular screenings. Valley is the ONLY local provider with both SmartCurve and the Genius3D technologies!

Selenia digital mammography offers a number of other practical advantages and patient conveniences. Because there is no waiting for film to be developed it significantly reduces the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit. The SmartCurve system also provides a curved compression surface that offers a more comfortable patient experience without compromising image quality, exam time, dose or workflow.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97%.

Valley uses C-View which minimizes radiation exposure. C-View software progresses early breast cancer detection further by generating a 2D image directly from the tomosynthesis data, lowering patient radiation dose and compression time, with the added benefit of greater patient comfort.

Valley is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering digital mammography, Valley MRI & Radiology provides the latest in imaging quality. If you would like to schedule a mammogram or have questions about this important breast health procedure, please contact us today.

FAQ’S

How can I prepare for a Mammogram, and what to avoid?

Avoid using deodorants, antiperspirants, powders, lotions, creams or perfumes under your arms or on your breasts. Metallic particles in powders and deodorants could be visible on your mammogram and cause confusion. Consider an over-the-counter pain medication if you find that having a mammogram is uncomfortable.

What do I wear to a Mammogram appointment?

There are no requirements or restrictions for mammograms. Although, we recommend you try wearing a two piece outfit so that you only have to remove the top part of your clothing for the exam. Our staff will provide you with either a short or full gown, depending on what you wear to the exam.

Can I wash off deodorant before a mammogram?

Don’t wear deodorant, perfume, lotion or powder under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your Foreign particles could show up in the image and cause inaccuracy.

Do Mammograms hurt?

Most women feel some discomfort during the actual X-ray process. The pressure against your breasts from the testing equipment can cause pain or discomfort, and that’s normal. At Valley MRI we can offer you a soft padding to protect you from the cold equipment and alleviate discomfort. This padding is not covered by insurance, but can be purchased for a minimal extra cost.

Can I get an Ultrasound instead of a mammogram?

An ultrasound is generally not used as the primary screening tool for breast cancer. However, when used in conjunction with mammography, it can complement other breast cancer screening tools. Often, an ultrasound will be ordered when an abnormality is detected on a mammogram.

Ultrasound

The Ultrasound machine uses sound waves to create images. These waves pass through soft areas of the body and bounce back when they hit harder structures. Quick and pain-free, the ultrasound is a great option to look at many parts of the body.

FAQ’s

How much does 3D and 4D ultrasound cost?

Valley Baby packages range from $75.00 to $300.00

Will my insurance cover my 3D ultrasound?

Although Valley MRI & Radiology Inc. is a full Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging Facility, currently no insurance companies cover 3D/4D fetal ultrasound imaging.  Any 3D/4D imaging will be at the expense of the patient.  Please ask about our discounted pricing when combined with a diagnostic medical ultrasound.

Is 3D 4D ultrasound safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby?

Extensive medical studies have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now a recommended and normal procedure. 3D/4D ultrasound scanning uses exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound as conventional 2D diagnostic ultrasound scanning. All use sound waves to look inside the body. As with 2D scanning, a non-invasive probe placed on the abdomen emits sound waves and absorbs the return echo but the technology that receives and interprets the return echo is greatly improved to generate high quality 3-dimensional photo and 4-dimensional video images.

How qualified is Valley MRI & Radiology to perform 3D ultrasound exams?

Valley MRI & Radiology Inc. is a full Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging Facility. We only have experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographers who are certified in conventional 2D ultrasound scanning and then further trained to perform 3D obstetrical ultrasounds. Our medical sonographers have been scanning collectively for over 40 years and have performed thousands of scans. In the unlikely event that a potential abnormality is found during an exam only the mother’s physician, not the mother, will receive the diagnostic report. The physician will then contact the mother to discuss the report.

Will I always get beautiful 3D ultrasound pregnancy pictures?

In most cases you will. Only 1% to 2% of the babies “misbehave” and have to return for a repeat visit. Some babies are persistently positioned looking down or facing towards the spine which makes it difficult to see the baby’s face. When this happens we may ask that you roll on your left side or right side or do other maneuvers during the scan to optimize the view. Every baby scans differently depending on gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placental location and characteristics of the mother’s body. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best images of your baby. We offer discounted Valley Baby Packages for returning clients.

How long will my session last?

We understand that your time is as valuable as our time. We recommend setting aside 25 to 30 minutes for your appointment. Your session length is determined by the Valley Baby Package you choose. The scans for our Emerald and Platinum packages are longer than the scans for our Ruby and other packages. We request that you and your guests arrive 10 minutes early. You will need to check in and complete paperwork before your scan. Arriving early will help us to start on time.

Can I bring family members to watch my ultrasound?

Absolutely! We encourage you to share your Valley Baby experience with anyone you would like. Due to current restrictions only 1 adult guest is allowed to attend the appointment with you. This is your ultrasound and we know it is very exciting welcoming a new little one. Please call our office for any questions on our current policies.

How long do I have to wait for my photos and video?

You will walk out of your appointment with all of your precious photos and videos included in your package on DVD and USB thumb drive. (Note: if you have purchased the Platinum package that includes 2 visits and DVD video, you will receive your DVD after your second visit)
